"the human race is just a chemical scum on a moderate-sized planet"<br /><br />It's funny, but I actually heard this argument from chemistry in college, from a pre-med. He was explaining to me that philosophy, my major, really was "bullsh*t," since, "really," people were justs "sacs of chemicals." <br /><br />We are, of course, but it's not quite all we are.<br /><br />It's like another common trope in the endless abortion debates. "How can you say that about a clump of cells?" And I think to myself, I'm a clump of cells.<br /><br />Assertions of worthlessness based on physical size or material composition don't hold water after ten seconds of serious thought.
